5th Class Masterminds: Bringing Maths to Life Through Games and Collaboration
Maths came to life in 5th class through engaging games and problem-solving activities that sparked curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm among all the pupils. One of the highlights was learning how to play chess, which became a fantastic opportunity for peer learning as pupils took great pride in teaching one another strategies and rules. Beyond the fun, chess encouraged logical thinking, pattern recognition, and forward planning—all essential skills in mathematical problem solving.
Adding to the excitement, Mrs Farrell joined the class for a session of “Crack the Codes,” where pupils worked together to solve puzzles and uncover hidden patterns in a room filled with energy and determination.
Overall, these activities made maths both enjoyable and meaningful, showing just how powerful games and collaboration can be in developing vital skills.
