5th Class Trip to Cullyfad – A Journey Through Local History
5th Class had a wonderful and educational day out in Cullyfad, where we learned all about the rich history of our local area. Guided by Seán Murray and Mossie Burns, we explored several important sites and discovered fascinating stories from the past.
Our first stop was the Old Killoe Cemetery, where we learned about some of the oldest headstones and local families from long ago. Seán and Mossie shared stories that brought the history to life, helping us understand how people lived long ago and remembered their loved ones.
Next, we visited St. Catherine’s and then St. Oliver’s Church, learning about their role in the community over the years. It was amazing to see these places up close and hear about the traditions and changes that have taken place.
We also spent time at the Cullyfad cemetery, where we continued to explore local heritage and learn about the importance of remembering those who came before us.
After all that walking and learning, we were treated to a lovely surprise! We finished the day at the Cullyfad Community Centre, where Ann Murray and Patricia Murphy welcomed us with refreshments. It was the perfect way to end a brilliant outing, with a well-earned rest and some tasty treats! We were so good we even got to visit the local play park on the way back to the bus. It was a day that we will never forget.
