On Tuesday 8th April, the third and fourth class pupils went on a wonderful trip to visit Athlone Castle. We got a guided tour travelling back in time following a series of eight modern exhibition places where the story of Athlone and the castle is discovered through panels, touchable objects and replica artefacts. During a spectacular 360 degree audio visual presentation, a reenactment of the siege of Athlone is experienced. The highlight of the trip was the Viking boat trip from Athlone castle to the Hudson Bay. Viking Mike gave us a very informative talk as we travelled on the river Shannon.We learned so much about the history of the river and the flora and fauna. It was a wonderful experience and most enjoyable tour on a fine sunny day.
